Two Google searches = one kettle boil!
Did you know that searching google twice will equal the same energy usage as boiling a kettle? Check out the full article on Telegraph.co.uk.
In addition to this, Google has 'shut down' an eco search engine it powered (Ecocho.com) because it's 'compensation' to users (ie offering to plant trees for searches) was against Google rules. Read more.
In fact, there are several eco search engines, powered by Google, that were around last year and no longer exist.
Blackle from Google seems to be trying to fill the void, but i can't help thinking a blackened screen hardly compensates for all the activity from the data centres powering the searches.
